# First steps

> Set up your subjects and start using StudentHub in a few minutes.

You do not need to set everything up on day one. Start with what you need today, and the rest gathers over time.

**1. Add your subjects**

Notes, recordings, deadlines and grades always belong to a subject. Add the ones you take now, and everything else has somewhere to live.

**2. Connect your timetable**

Paste the iCal link from your school and your classes fill the calendar by themselves. It is usually under "Subscribe" in your timetable. See [Calendar](https://help.getstudenthub.app/use/calendar.md).

**3. Write a note or record a lecture**

Record while you take your own notes. Afterwards you can turn the recording into text you can search.

**4. Turn it into study material**

Studio makes flashcards, quizzes, summaries and study questions from your notes, recordings and files. See [Studio](https://help.getstudenthub.app/use/studio.md).

**5. Practice**

Make a deck, then go through the cards with Practice or Quiz. Both are free.

> [!TIP]
>
> Hold a tile on the home screen to move it, hide it, or change how big the tiles are.

## What costs something

Almost nothing. Recording, writing notes, importing files and practicing cards are free. Only two things use a study action: transcribing a recording, and running Studio. You get 3 free every month. Read more in [Study actions](https://help.getstudenthub.app/pro/study-actions.md).
